The Return of the Green Smoothie...

Admittedly, I go back and forth between green smoothies. Not because I don't think that they are a healthy (and rather happily sneaky) way of starting off the day with fruits and veggies... they totally are. My problem tends to be that I also see the power in that "one extra minute", (or two, or three, or five), of staying in bed. As a result, I usually end up with little or no time for smoothie making. This weekend however, I decided to take matters into my own hands and wash, cut, pack up, and freeze smoothie goodies so that the only thing I have to do in the morning is add a splash of something liquid and blend!

The green smoothie recipe I use consists of;
- 1/2 granny smith apple
- 1/2 banana
- 1 leaf or handful of kale
- 1 small bunch of parsley
- 1/2 tsp of chia seeds
- a handful of mixed frozen berries (if I have them)
- splash of OJ and water or unsweetened almond milk (whatever I have and sounds good)
  ... and is adapted from many running around on the internets like this one and this one
YUM!

This go around I am storing them in ziplock freezer bags that I plan to reuse until it's time to recycle them (darn pinterest influence... grr).  However, in an effort to be more environmentally friendly, I think I will store the smoothies in the freezer in mason jars or another similar container.

Our compost bin is LOVING this!

What do you like in your smoothie? What tricks do you use to keep your morning running smoothly?
