Travel Log: Cabo San Lucas

We love to travel and in the past I have been fairly terrible about sharing our adventures in blog form both here and on our blog . My plan is to turn that trend around and share more about our travels both near and far!

So here we go...Cabo Style!!!

We traveled to...
Cabo San Lucas, California Baja Sur, Mexico (aka Cabo)

We stayed...
At the RIU Palace All Inclusive Resort.
This is the second all inclusive resort we have stayed at and it was wonderful for this particular trip. We were celebrating Shane's parents 40th wedding anniversary with his parents, his brother, and his wife (and our 9th anniversary and Todd and Roxann's 8th!!) . We loved lounging around, sipping frosty beverages, eating yummy fresh food, and did I mention lounging around?!

On the Been There, Done That List...
This trip was all about relaxing, enjoying each other's company, and more relaxing so we spent a lot of time at the pool and lounging around the beach. We ladies did venture into downtown Cabo for a little shopping one morning at the Flea Market and lunch at Cabo Wabo. I highly suggest both! The flea market had tons of neat stuff to look at and good deals on goodies to take home. While Cabo Wabo had amazingly delicious lobster tacos! YUM!

Our hotel was located just across the bay from Lands End on the Pacific side and while we didn't travel over to it, or Lover's Beach this trip, we did wake up to it every day and watch the sun settle behind it. We did get in the water but the water was pretty choppy and chilly so we didn't spend as much time in it as Shane and I would have liked. It was beautiful to look at and so peaceful to hear crashing on the beach!

All in all it was a wonderfully relaxing family vacation! Yay!

One of those days...

Today has been one of those days where I have taken more than my fair share of deep breathes, looked to the sky, and said to myself, "why can't we just love and respect each other?".

So I leave you with my rambling in the form of what became a facebook status for the day;

as human beings we may not always agree with or understand each other but one thing is absolutely certain and that is that every single one of us is important, worthy, and should be treated with dignity, love, and respect. Period.

Allergies.. Grr!

I have suffered with allergies all my life but the past two years have bee especially bad. In August, I had the blood allergy test conducted and while I knew I was allergic to many different airborne allergens (molds, pollen, tree pollen, etc) I didn't think I had any food allergies. According to the blood test, which measures anti-bodies for allergens in the blood, I am allergic to wheat, corn, egg whites, peanuts, walnuts, and sesame seeds. Grr! :(

So I have a referral for an Allergist and I will have the skin test conducted to find out a.) if I truly have these allergies and a reaction to them and b.) what my next steps are. My doctor suggested in the mean time trying to avoid these allergens and keeping a food/allergy journal.

So, this weekend I am looking for recipe and meal ideas that don't contain all these allergens that are potentially causing my body to be unhappy. So far it looks like Rice cereal and sweet potatoes are my new best friends.

If you have any meal suggestions or recipes that don't contain wheat, corn, eggs, peanuts, walnuts, or sesame seeds please post them or send them my way! My allergic body and I thank you bunches! :)

P.S. I must have the most supportive and amazing husband on earth! He is 100% on board with making these changes with me!!! Yah!

Happy Critters!

While I will spare you the photographic evidence (and because every battery in this house seems to be dead right now), I gave Shane a much needed haircut on the back deck tonight. Based on the amount of soft Shane locks on said deck, methinks the birds, squirrels, and other creatures will be very happy (and warm) this fall and winter!

The best part was not being bitten by mosquitoes but the cool, crisp breeze reminding me that fall is SO close!

Yah!

Gratitude Sunday

I am joining Taryn of Wooly Moss Roots in celebrating a few things that I am so very thankful for.

Throughout the Week I Have Been Thankful For;

-The weather yesterday! We woke up to slightly overcast skies, rain soaked earth, and 50 degree temperatures outside. The high warmed to 70 and the skies cleared (boo, I really love overcastedness), and a cool breeze moved through. It reminded me that my favorite season is just around the corner! It felt so real and so exciting!

- A good surprise visit with friends yesterday that took us away from yard work for a bit (yah!).

- The Best Mail Day Ever!!!!! (P.S., Taryn, I am wearing my new earrings today and I love them even more on!!!)

- The smell and warm hugs of my husband. Cheesy as it may sound he completes me!

- A long and wonderful phone call with my Neesebug (my sister Denise) :)

- A cozy and cheerful knitting group with my favorite knitters on Wednesday night. Complete with local wine!

- Game of Thrones... after finishing Entourage last week I was anxious for another TV series to get engrossed in and it totally delivers nerd style :)

- The way that yarn feels as it turns into a shawl (that is ready to bind off methinks) as the temperatures turn a shade cooler and not as blistering.

- Crockpots! I have been making loads of chicken broth and black beans to freeze for fall and winter and crockpots make it so easy! I can't wait for some local apples to make butter and sauce!

- More lavender drying. I just love the stuff!

- Mums! We bought mums yesterday and planted them in pots around the front door. Just another reminder that the beauty of fall is *this* close!

- Orthodontist free! I was released from my Orthodontist this week. After 4 years in braces in high school and then a second round as an adult to help with my TMJ I am now Orthodontist free (not retainer free mind you as retainers are forever :D

- Water! Clean drinking water, rain water, the feeling of a good shower after a long day of yard work, water!

What have you been thankful for this week?

Best Mail Day Ever!

While the water bill, L.L. Bean catalog, and renewal reminder from the American Public Health Association were all delightful (?), the best mail day ever was courtesy of my sister Denise sending a profile of our oldest niece Mikayla from a local magazine highlighting her amazing gift for poetry (among many other things), my step sister Amanda sending pictures of our newest/youngest nephew that we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of (they are adopting from Korea!), and the earrings and buttons I ordered from Taryn and her beautiful family of Wooly Moss Roots and Mystic Orb !!!!

Seriously, THE.BEST. MAIL. DAY. EVER!

So good in fact, I took a picture!

Yep... I'm silly but I'm silly happy!!! :)

Did you get any fun surprises in your mail today?!!
