As promised.. A Recipe

We are still staying warm and snug here!

There is nothing yummier on a cold, cold day than hot soup! Soup is generally pretty healthy when homemade, filling, makes great leftovers, and really warms you up on a cold day. At our house we pretty much live on soup in the winter months. Most of my favorites are loosely based on recipes I've either been given or stumbled upon and include vegetable, black bean, and great northern beans.

I'm going to share my version of Great Northern Bean Soup.
Ingredients
- 1 1lb bag of dry great northern beans
- 1 small to medium white onion diced
- 1 - 2 cups (depending on taste) diced low sodium ham
- 1 twist of a grinder of sea salt
- Pepper to taste
- 1 splash of Worcesteshire Sauce (because my dad claims that it makes everything better)

How To
- Quick soak the dry beans using the following method;
- In a large soup pot boil beans for 3 minutes.
- Cover the beans and set them aside in the water they were boiled in for two hours.
- Drain the beans and rinse them with lukewarm water.
- Add the beans and remaining contents to a 5- 6 quart crockpot.
- Add enough fresh water to just cover the beans.
- Cook on low for 8- 10 hours
- Serve with warm cornbread.

We'll actually be enjoying this great soup this coming weekend while we enjoy all the fluffy white stuff we are forecasted to get. Ahh... good stuff!
