The last few months Shane and I have been trying to decide if we should buy or build our next home. We are 99% sure we are going to find land and build an eco-friendly home "out in the country" or as "out in the country" as possible given the fact that we are planning to stay near Indianapolis. So, we have also decided to continue in our apartment for a little longer to save money, learn more about green building and design, etc... So, as a result, I am trying to a.) do the best that I can to learn self sufficient and environmentally friendly homekeeping with the limitations found in apartment living, and b.) try and remain patient! Eek!
So over the past few weeks as spring is springing up I have;
- planned this years patio/container garden and started seeds for; cucumber, sweet peppers,tomato, hot peppers, basil, catnip, cilantro, sage, and nasturshum. I am also planning to buy tomato, rosemary, and thyme plants in the coming weeks.
Last year's basil after a summer rainstorm.
Yummy?!
- attempted twice now to start sourdough starter. I think that my problem here was using too small of a mason jar. I cleaned up a larger jar and will restart it today. And of course, try and remain patient while I try and not fail at a "no fail recipe" that has worked for centuries!
All of these endeavours have me, for the time being, waiting, watching, tending, and ultimately, trying to learn patience, while I wait for the seeds to grow, the compost to compost, and the sourdough to hopefully, finally, work and bring yummy bread!
Okay... time for some patience in the form of yoga!
